Anna Wintour might be the subject of The Devil Wears Prada but that doesn't mean she doesn't have a sense of humor. Case in point: her latest talk show appearance on Late Night With Seth Myers, where Anna plays up her reputation as an ice queen, giving her strong sense of direction to Seth and the rest of his staff as the brains behind the show.
As unexpected as it is to see Anna making jokes at her own expense, it's not the first time she's done it. Ever since that, uh, fictional novel was developed into a film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, Anna has made a habit out of flexing her comedic side. Here are some of her best performances.
The Colbert Report
Anna waited a total of 40 seconds before taking down Colbert in their 2012 interview. When the host started off calling her a "tough guy," she immediately fired back, "Don't you think you could take a few more risks with the way you're dressing?" and got more entertaining from there.
Late Night With Jimmy Fallon
When Anna and Marc Jacobs went on Late Night to promote Fashion's Night Out, they ended up making more jokes than marketing the event, which Anna didn't hesitate to point out. She recounts the time she witness Lady Gaga communicating with God at the Met Gala, the perks of being the EIC of Vogue, and even suggests Marc and Jimmy dress up as bananas for FNO.
73 Questions For Vogue
It's one thing for Anna Wintour to deliver one-liners in a short interview but even when the camera is focused on her in one single shot without interruption, she can still bring it. In her 73 questions for Vogue, Anna didn't miss an opportunity to fire back with wit. When asked why she wears her sunglasses indoors, the queen replied "hiding from you."
Late Night With Seth Meyers
When Anna was a guest—alongside Sarah Jessica Parker—on Seth Meyers' show last year, her one-liners were even more well-received. They were so strong, in fact, that SJP suggests they go on a college comedy tour together. Um, hi, I would totally attend that. Anna goes on to explain how to escape awkward introductions and say that her "punk days" are behind her, which everyone is, obviously, very amused by.
In a profile on 60 Minutes, Anna recalls that when she sent her first Vogue cover to the printers, they had to call to make sure she hadn't made a mistake. Instead of getting worked up about it, she laughs through it—um, no, she hadn't made a mistake.
The Late Show With David Letterman
Letterman didn't make it easy for Anna when she stopped by his show in 2009. Off the bat, he asked her about her reputation, to which Anna had the perfect reply: "I read in The New York Times this week I'm an ice queen. I'm the Sun King, I'm an alien fleeing from District 9, and I'm a dominatrix," she joked. "So I reckon that makes me a lukewarm royalty with a whip from outer space. What do you think?" Boom.
