Oscar The Grouch's Reason For Living In A Trash Can Is Not Garbage

Not bad, Oscar. Not bad.

Sesame Street is prime real estate. Consider it the Park Place or Boardwalk of fictional kid cities, full of boldface names. (Imagine the Page Six of "Sesame Street," calling out Big Bird's weekend proclivities in blind items.) So assuming the denizens of the block are pretty affluent, why does Oscar the Grouch choose to live in a trash can?

We finally got the answer, once and for all, thanks to puppeteer Caroll Spinney's appearance on HuffPost Live yesterday (May 6).

Speaking as Oscar -- puppet and all -- Spinney clarified the little grump's reasons for choosing his living situation. It all comes down to simple economics and pursuing your passions in life, really.

"Well, the rents are cheap and I love trash," Oscar said. "So I figure I can be close to it with being in a trash can myself. What's wrong with that?"

Nothing at all, Oscar. Nothing at all.
