After a ten year hiatus, Canadian indie rock band The Unicorns announced last year that they were reuniting (yay!). Still, that hasn't stopped Unicorns member Alden Penner from doing his own thing. Penner is releasing a solo EP later this year, and his collaborator is none other than our favorite manic pixie dream boy, Michael Cera.
Last year, in addition to dropping his own collection of lo-fi bedroom pop via Bandcamp (a surprisingly great release, btw), Cera was featured on Penner's solo track "Meditate." This time around, the actor plays bass on Penner's new, conceptual EP entitled Canada In Space.
In a press release, Penner says of Canada In Space:
"There are more Canadians than any other nationality represented in the planned Mars colony. The Canada in Space EP is an imagining of the dreams, reveries, phantasms, hallucinations, psycho-spiritual projections, naïve mythologies, actions, visions and experiences of an abandoned crew before, during and after its permanent journey to Mars; the compression of time; dispersion, fragmentation of states and generations in space; ultimate detachment & wormholes."
Um, cool. We're down with that.
The duo are going on tour together this summer in Europe, so if you happen to be an EU citizen, you can check out Cera's musical skillz IRL.
In case you didn't know, this isn't Michael Cera's first foray into the music biz. The "Juno" and "Arrested Development" star has also played bass with the band Mister Heavenly.
