The All-Female Avengers Never Looked So Cute As In This Exclusive 'A-Force' Cover

Plus, we talk to a Marvel editor about what to expect from the latest Avengers line-up.

A little less than a month from now, we'll be seeing a much different Avengers line-up than we're used to in the new series "A-Force." That's because for the first time in Marvel history, the Avengers team will be made up entirely of women -- and created by Eisner-nominated writer G. Willow Wilson ("Ms Marvel") and Marguerite Bennett ("Angela, Asgard's Assassin").

To help you get hyped for this latest "Secret Wars" tie-in, which takes place in the Battleworld territory of "Arcadia," MTV is proud to bring you an exclusive look at one of its first issue variant covers by none other than "L'il Marvel"'s Skottie Young.

We spoke to both Young and Marvel editor Daniel Ketchum about this adorable cover, and what to expect from "A-Force #1" when it finally arrives in comic book stores on May 20th.

MTV News: Why did you choose Medusa as the focus of this variant cover?

Skottie Young: The hair. There’s just too many cool things to do with all that moving hair. It made for a fun way to bring all the characters together.

MTV: What’s the best part about getting to draw such cartoonish, adorable versions of the characters we all know and love?

Young: The freedom to tell jokes with characters we all love. It’s my way to add a bit of the Sunday morning comic strip feel to a cover and have fun with the trouble making nature of kids.

MTV: Who’s your favorite Marvel character to draw?

Young: That’s hard to say. it changes all the time. Though I’m kind of partial to Cyclops because I like to see how big I can make his visor.

MTV: Can you tell us more about the world of Acadia and how our heroines find ourselves there?

Marvel Editor Daniel Ketchum: Arcadia is a territory of Battleworld protected by a team of Avengers comprised of the mightiest women of Marvel. Just as in the Marvel Universe we’re leaving behind, these Avengers keep the peace, ensuring that the average citizen is safe from whatever super-powered threat might jeopardize their way of life. And on Battleworld, these threats come from not only within Arcadia, but also from its neighboring territories…

MTV: How has the response been from fans since the A-Force announcement?

Ketchum: Marvel fans are AMAZING…they unfailingly approach the characters and the stories with so much enthusiasm. But I’m particularly touched that they not only expressed excitement over the established characters who will be featured in the series, but they’ve embraced Singularity—a new hero we’ll be introducing. I can’t even begin to describe the feelings of gratitude and giddiness I experienced when I saw the first piece of Singularity fan art. "A-Force #1" hadn’t even gone to the printer yet and there was already fan art! Seriously, Marvel has truly awesome fans.

MTV: Can you tease out anything about what we can expect from the A-Force series going forward?

Ketchum: Excitement! She-Hulk and her team of Avengers uncover a conspiracy within the walls of Arcadia, but one that reaches far beyond its borders. In order to protect the sanctity of their world, they’ll need to root out the enemy quickly…knowing that in the process, they’re going to have to make some difficult choices and endure some devastating sacrifices. Also in the process: Ass kicking. The women of Marvel will be kicking a lot of ass.
