Eminem made a rapper from his home state a lucky man this week.
Em's Shady Music Publishing has signed Astray, a Saginaw, Michigan native, according to reports and social media posts. The deal means that "they are going to work with him on songs," according to what Marshall's publicist, Dennis Dennehy, told MLive.com. The site also reports that the rapper is a former intern at Em's studio, 54 Sound, in Ferndale, MI.
In addition to Shady Music Publishing, Astray inked with Universal Music Group, which struck a deal with Em and manager and business partner Paul Rosenberg back in 2007. Rosenberg excitedly welcomed his team's newest member to the fold.
Pleased to welcome our new writer @ASTRAY_or_SHAWN to Shady Music Publishing with UMP. Keep an eye out for him!— Paul Rosenberg (@rosenberg) April 23, 2015
"I am very excited to be working with these two titans in the music industry and can’t wait to show you what we do from here!!" Astray wrote on Facebook. He also tweeted a clarification that the deal is with Em and Paul's publishing outfit, not their label, Shady Records.
JUST TO CLEAR THINGS UP. IM SIGNED TO SHADY MUSIC PUBLISHING / UNIVERSAL MUSIC PUBLISHING. NOT SHADY RECORDS.— ASTRAY (@ASTRAY_or_SHAWN) April 24, 2015
