If there's one thing we've gotten from the run-up to next weekend' "Avengers: Age of Ultron," it's that director Joss Whedon is just so effing tired. He's not coming back to direct the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War"; that honor goes to the Russo Brothers. As has been clear since journalists visited the London set of "Age of Ultron" in 2014, Whedon is ready for a break.
Here are 8 super-solid examples that Whedon is due for a great big nap after the May 1 release of his "Avengers" sequel.
"I don't know who I am."Getty Images
"There comes a point in filming when you are writing, filming, and editing, and you cannot make a grocery list. I haven't had a good idea about anything. I'm so excited that I'm wearing underwear — that I got that right today."Getty Images
He told journalists on the London set visit.
"I'm gonna give myself up to it like a Christian to a lion."
He said on the set visit, drawing an all-too-vivid metaphor.
"This was the hardest work I've ever done, and at some point, when it's that hard, you just feel like you've lost."Getty Images
“They came to me about the movie, and what I said was, 'I'm tapped out' ... and I think they knew that even if I could give them something, it wasn't going to be anytime soon."Marvel
Whedon told Vulture that he'd been approached to script "Infinity War."
"There's a huge part of me that would love to do 'Infinity War.' I mean, come on, it would just be so glorious. But that would be four years of my life...After which I would be 20 years older."Getty Images
No, but Whedon's really too sleepy for "Infinity War," he told Vulture.
“It’s a break or a breakdown."Getty Images
In his chat with the LA Times at the movie's premiere, he was still so ready for a nap.
"I do this, I go home, I rewrite, I go to sleep. I do this, I go home, I rewrite, I go to sleep."Marvel
On the London set visit, Whedon's life was one exhausting lather, rinse, repeat.
So you heard the man! Go see "Avengers: Age of Ultron" when it hits theaters on May 1, but by god, let Joss Whedon take a damn nap! Robot movies really take it out of a guy.
