'True Life' Update: Has Dean's Mom Learned To Respect Her Son's Career Ambitions?

He and another 'True Life: I Have Pushy Parents' subject update us on what's gone down since filming ended.

MTV's "True Life" followed two young men whose lives were being controlled by their mothers. We had an opportunity to check in with Dean and Chann of "True Life: I Have Pushy Parents" to see how their lives have changed since filming wrapped. Take a look at our follow-up Q&A below:

Dean

Is your mom still on your back all the time, or has she eased up?

My mom still checks with me daily and makes sure I'm on the right track, but she has definitely eased up. She has realized I have my goals and life planned out and I'm sticking to them. I'm determined, and she realized I have so much I plan to accomplish.

Do you have any plans to move out soon?

Within the next year or so, after working and opening the restaurant with Rob.

Have you and Rob made any progress opening your restaurant?

Yes, we have looked at a handful of spaces and have our eye on one that we're hoping to get by the end of May and open up by summer.

How did sharing your experience with us impact your life and your relationship with your mom?

Sharing my experience with MTV made me realize having a pushy parent isn't always a bad thing. My mom and I are even closer after this. I realized I'm lucky. Like any other parent, she just wants the best for me, and I'm thankful for such amazing parents like mine that have done so much for me.

Has your mom continued to let you make your own decisions?

My mom has grown so much since we started filming. We talk a few times a week, and she is giving me the space that I need to be more independent. She is always going to be involved in my decisions, but now I feel like the decisions are mine to make.

How did sharing your experience with us impact your life and your relationship with your mom?

My mom and I have grown a lot because of the show. We have bonded better than ever because being filmed was somewhat like therapy -- we had to talk about our issues. My mom and I have a greater sense of appreciation for each other and a deeper level of respect.

Are you excited about going to L.A. and abroad?

L.A. is the city of dreams, and I cannot wait to go there and pursue all of mine. I am going to have the opportunity to take classes, act, network and introduce the world to my clothing line, Quote Clothing. As soon as I leave LA, I will be going to 10 countries for a Semester at Sea that will be a life-changing experience. I feel blessed to have all of these opportunities coming my way in 2015.

What was the most surprising part about sharing your experience with us?

I learned that I was holding years of resentment inside, and it was good to talk to so many people about what I was going through. I was surprised that our problems got fixed so quickly -- within a few months, my mom and I were communicating 10 times better than we ever had. Communication is key to making any relationship work, and now we have that. Our bond is unbreakable.
