The Secret To Lorde's Success Is In This Throwback Photo

Just in time for baseball season...

Apparently, one piece of paper kind of changed Lorde's entire life. At least according to an Instagram the 18-year-old singer posted this past weekend.

"Me in my bedroom, 2012 - can u see the original picture of kc royals player george brett on my wall?" Lorde wrote on the photo-sharing app. "i tore it from a national geographic and put it there about 3 months before taking this photo. without that piece of paper, my whole life would be different."

For those who lack a dossier detailing Lorde's every move aren't in the know, Lorde was partially inspired to pen her hit song "Royals" by Kansas City Royals’ legend George Brett (who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999).

“I had this image from the National Geographic of this dude signing baseballs,” Ella said in an interview with VH1. “He was a baseball player and his shirt said ‘Royals.’ And I was like ‘I really love that word,’ because I’m a big word fetishist, I’ll pick a word and I’ll pin an idea to that. It was just that word and I was like ‘This is really cool.'"

So if you wanna be royal, dudes, better start collaging.
