This summer, the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise will boldly go where no man has gone before -- except for Hal Jordan, of course.

As part of a partnership with DC Comics, IDW Publishing recently announced a limited crossover series in which Captain Kirk and his Enterprise crew will team up with the Green Lantern. "The Spectrum War," by Mike Johnson and Angel Hernandez, will begin in July and run for six issues.

This isn't the first time 'Star Trek' has gotten the comic crossover treatment -- actually, it's been happening a lot lately, and often involves some of the most popular franchises and characters in Nerddom, from Wolverine to the Doctor himself.

Grab something to hold onto, because all of this crossover goodness is gonna to make you want to jump like you're being attacked by Klingon warships:

"Star Trek" meets "The X-Men"

Back in 1996, Marvel Comics began putting out comic book titles that tied-in to the 'Star Trek' franchise as part of a deal with Paramount Pictures. This included a single-issue crossover where Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Beast (yes, there IS a "why are there two Dr. McCoys" joke), Storm, Gambit, and Bishop follow the alien Shi'ar race into a dimensional rift that put them face to face with the crew of the Enterprise.

Ultimately the Paramount imprint was short-lived, but it DID give us what every nerd really wants deep down in their hearts: Mr. Spock giving Wolverine a Vulcan Neck Pinch. And the geekgasms didn't stop there!

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" meets "The X-Men"

Following the success of the first crossover, another one-shot comic called called "Second Contact," followed Picard and his Enterprise-E crew back into the X-Men universe, where they must team up with Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, Nightcrawler, Angel, and Kitty Pryde to stop Kang the Conquerer from taking over all possible realities. As you can imagine, Wolf and Wolverine have a beautiful bonding moment over being displeased with everything.

"Star Trek" meets "The Legion of Superheroes"

In the DC Comics Universe, the Legion of Superheroes is a future team of time-travelers from the 30th and 31st centuries who come back to the past to recruit Superboy as a member. Eventually they gained enough popularity with readers that they got their own ongoing series, and were relaunched in 2011 as part of the New 52.

As part of the relaunch, DC also teamed up with IDW to mash-up their futuristic legion with the cast of the original 1996 'Star Trek.' The six-issue crossover was set towards the end of the Enterprise's five year mission, and features the Legion journeying to an alternate 23rd century and meeting up with Kirk and the gang.

"Star Trek" meets "Doctor Who"

The Bog and the Cyberman team up in this eight issue series from IDW, and it's up to the eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, and the crew of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" to stop them.

It's also heavily implied at the end of the series that the only reason the Borg decided to interfere with Earth's timeline during the "Star Trek: First Contact" movie is because they were inspired by their encounter with the Doctor to study time travel. Whoops!

"Star Trek" Meets "The Planet of the Apes"

Called "The Primate Directive" (honstly the whole crossover is worth it just for that amazing title), this IDW series is still being published -- the fifth and final issue comes out later this month on the 22nd. Kirk and his crew must team up with George Taylor and Doctor Zaius to defeat a gorilla military coup that have been backed by Klingon forces.

Everyone knows that the new rebooted "Star Trek" movies existed in an alternate timeline from the original TV show continuity -- Future-Spock explained it all pretty thoroughly in the 2009 film., right?

But that also means that the new crew can jump across dimensions and visit any other part of the franchise it wants, which they totally did in a "Star Trek" comic storyline called "The Q Gambit." Yeah, of COURSE Q, the all-powerful antagonist from "The Next Generation," was involved. How ELSE would you get Chris Pine's Kirk and "Deep Space Nine" Captain Benjamin Sisko in a room together?

"Star Trek" Meets "The Green Lantern"

According to the publishers, "the balance of the universe will be tested when the Green Lanterns Corps' Power Rings come into the possession of certain Star Trek characters while a dark and powerful evil looms around every corner.

We can guess from the first issue cover that General Chang from "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" will factor into the story, but who are these other characters who're getting rings? Guess we'll have to wait until July to find out!
