This Is Where Your Victoria's Secret Underwear Goes After You Return It

Is this the big ~secret~?

If you were a teenager that grew up anywhere near a mall, chances are you stepped in a Victoria's Secret. Typically, your visit went down like this: You're shopping their Semi-Annual Sale surrounded by piles of lingerie, you pick out your favorite cotton undies (I refuse to say the P word), and GTFO as fast as you can because, ack, crowds. When you get home, you try them all on and realize some pairs pinch in ways you never thought possible. So, you head back to the store, return ’em, and life's all cool, right? Well, sure, if you're OK with the fact that the underwear you just gave back will never see the light of day again.

As Jezebel pointed out, a 22-year-old Victoria's Secret manager did an anonymous Reddit Ask Me Anything where she revealed what actually happens to all that returned merchandise. She said, "every returned pair of panties have to get damaged out, regardless of whether the tags are still on them or not. Then we shred them and throw them out after." Basically, this means that every pair of underwear you return to VS gets thrown away the moment you return it. Yowza.

For a company that controls 35% of the lingerie market, this seems incredibly wasteful, and back in 2011, a woman actually watched her Victoria's Secret sweatpants get shredded right in front of her. Companies fear that if they don't damage their goods, they'll be resold at secondhand stores for less, but c'mon, dudes, there are so many better places this clothing could end up. In the meantime, just be super picky about what you buy because apparently, those undies are just one step away from hittin' the shredder.
