What do you get when you combine Martin Garrix's progressive sound design and Tiesto's big-room anthems? A brand-new track, "The Only Way Is Up," created when 7UP hit them up with an opportunity to collaborate.
The two Dutchmen premiered the track Thursday night at a launch party in Miami, a day before dance music's biggest festival, Ultra, kicks off. MTV News caught up with the guys, who said they always had plans for music together, but never really finished anything until 7UP approached them with the idea. In Las Vegas, they found an a cappella sample they liked, chopped it up and created a "mixture of deep house and old Tiesto trance," Tiesto said.
Garrix, 18, and Tiesto, 46, have different ways of laying down their ideas, so matching up their styles was a learning experience for the veteran and the up-and-comer.
"Martin works a little different in the studio -- I'm a little more old school," Tiesto said. "I used more analog back in the days and he's just a whiz on his laptop. It's incredible to see how he works. He's so fast. He makes melodies without even using the keyboards."
