Oh, I'm sorry, were you too busy eagerly anticipating "The Force Awakens" on December 18, 2015 to notice that the "Star Wars" folks just officially announced the release dates for not just "Episode VIII," but the franchise's first stand-alone film, "Rogue One?" Shame on you.
Basically, Disney and Lucasfilm just went full Marvel by announcing multiple films on their upcoming slate at all once -- specifically "Rogue One," which will hit theaters December 16, 2016, and "Episode VIII," which will follow on May 26, 2017.
As previously announced, Rian Johnson (of "Looper" fame) will write and direct "Episode VIII," while Felicity Jones will star in "Rouge One," which will be directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz.
... Now excuse us as we appropriately react to this news.
