Bad news, everyone: it looks like the set of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” may be cursed (most likely by the Black Pearl).
At least, that’s the only explanation we can come up with based on recent events. Yesterday, we told you about the knife-wielding pirate wannabe who stormed the set. And today, news broke that leading man Johnny Depp injured his hand and has flown back to the U.S. for surgery.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, a spokesman for the film said the injury happened off set in Queensland, Australia, where production began just a month ago. However, the rep said Depp’s two-week absence will have only a “minimal” impact on filming, and the release date is still slated for July 7, 2017.
Hmm...maybe another chupacabra attack is to blame?
For the fifth installment of the “Pirates” franchise, Depp is reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, who’s tasked with hunting down the legendary Trident of Poseidon while he tries to fight off his nemesis, played by Javier Bardem. Breton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario also star.
While we’re happy to hear Depp’s injury won’t set the film back, there’s no word yet on how it might affect his musical side gigs. The guitarist’s rock supergroup, The Hollywood Vampires — which also includes Alice Cooper and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry — recently hit the studio and is slated to play the Rock in Rio festival in September. Hopefully he’s all healed up before then!
