New York City can be a magical place. (Just ask Taylor Swift... or that weird magician in Times Square.) But that doesn't mean just anyone can live there. It takes a certain kind of resilience -- and a general okayness with rats and imperfection -- to make these streets your home. And Netflix's new wide-eyed ingénue, Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper), is about to find that out firsthand.
Speaking to MTV News, Kemper, a former New Yorker herself, gave us a few of her most important tips for surviving New York City. So listen up, Kimmy! (And you might want to grab your Lisa Frank pencil and take some notes.)
"Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" -- which is currently streaming on Netflix -- follows Kimmy, a naive young woman who was kidnapped as a teen and spent the last 15 years in an underground apocalypse bunker, as she attempts to start life anew in New York City. It's not easy, but she's Kimmy Schmidt: eternal optimist and resilient AF.
In Kimmy's own words, "I'm pretty, but tough. Like a diamond. Or beef jerky in a ballgown."
