Azealia Banks' Twitter account sees some heavy action, but for the next month the New York rapper is going to lay off the tweets. Yup, you read that right. On Monday (Mar. 2), Banks took to Twitter to announce that she was giving up Twitter for Lent.
Lent is a time of year where Christians fast and give up various things like eating meat to strengthen spiritual discipline and a connection to God. Every year Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts until Easter Sunday and while Banks is a couple weeks late (Ash Wednesday was on Feb. 18) she is now ready to quit the tweets, leaving social media duties to her management team. She will still be on Instagram however.
Banks, while primarily known for her music, is also well-known for her fiery and pointed Twitter tirades. In the past she's used the social networking site to express her displeasure with rival rapper Iggy Azaela, T.I. and her former label Interscope Records. Maybe some time off is a good idea.
Iggy Azaela also announced that she will be leaving Twitter back on Feb. 18, (Ash Wednesday) because according to her "The Internet is the ugliest reflection of man kind there is." What a coincidence.
