The man who shot and killed "American Sniper" author and subject Chris Kyle has been convicted of murder.
According to CNN, A Stephenville, Texas jury has found Eddie Ray Routh guilty of the shooting deaths of Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield. The former Marine, said to be suffering post-traumatic stress after serving in the Iraq War, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Kyle and Littlefield were killed on February 2, 2013, little more than two years ago, at a shooting range near Fort Worth, Texas. Kyle was said to have been approached by Routh's mother to help her son deal with issues stemming from his time at war.
Starring Bradley Cooper and directed by Clint Eastwood, "American Sniper" is based on Kyle's memoir about his time serving as a Navy SEAL. He is considered the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history, with 160 kills confirmed by the Pentagon. The film based on his memoir has earned more than $430 million worldwide, and was nominated for six Academy Awards, winning one for Best Sound Editing.
