Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara may be the comedy duo we never knew we needed.

In this hilarious new trailer for their upcoming action comedy, “Hot Pursuit,” Witherspoon plays a straight-laced cop tasked with protecting a drug lord’s widow, played by Vergara. The hilariously mismatched pair trek across Texas, on the run from gunmen and dirty cops.

The movie is directed by Anne Fletcher (“The Proposal,” “The Guilt Trip”) and also stars John Carroll Lynch (“American Horror Story,” “Shutter Island”), Robert Kazinsky (“True Blood,” “Pacific Rim”), and Richard T. Jones (“Hawaii Five-O,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”).

“Hot Pursuit” marks a return to comedy for Witherspoon after serious turns in “The Good Lie” and “Wild,” for which she was nominated for an Oscar. It’s also Vergara’s first major big-screen role since last year’s indie comedy “Chef.”

We think “Hot Pursuit” looks like it could be the best female-led action comedy since Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy’s 2013 hit “The Heat.” What do you think? Sound off in the comments below.
