Sam Smith Didn't Cry When He Won Best New Artist -- But We Did

Don't worry, all this joy won't go to his head.

Tears may follow Sam Smith around like a particularly poignant rain cloud, but Sunday (Feb. 8) he managed to accept his Grammy for Best New Artist with entirely dry eyes. The rest of us, uhh ... DON'T LOOK AT ME!

"I've gotta try to say something now without crying. Thank you," Smith said, taking the stage after presenter Taylor Swift told everyone who didn't take home the trophy -- including future tourmates HAIM -- that they should "shake it off." She also reminded us all how she lost the same award Sam won back in 2008.

"I love everyone. I love you," Smith said, thanking his label and parents, then proclaiming, his voice on the verge of breaking, "I won a Grammy!"

That you did, dude -- in the snappiest of red jackets no less -- beating out Iggy Azalea, Bastille, Brandy Clark and HAIM for the honor.

Lest you worry that Smith will be resting on his laurels when it comes to future releases, check out the below tweet. The "Stay With Me" singer's inspiration well runs seriously deep it seems, even if he does have a shiny trophy on his mantle now.
