What Will Justin Bieber Be Doing During The Grammys This Year?

Somehow, I feel like Justin might be doing laundry instead.

Let's be real. Justin Bieber and the Grammys don't have a pretty past.

Their history goes back to 2011, when Biebs was just a young'un, flopping his mop top around and squeaking out his high ambitions. He was considered a shoo-in for Best New Artist, a category he was nominated in with Esperanza Spalding, Florence + The Machine, Drake and Mumford & Sons. He was also up for Best Pop Vocal album for My World 2.0. Go Bieber, right?

But shortly after he missed out on both Grammy wins, losing Best Artist to Spalding, who was virtually an unknown in the Bieber realm, MTV News spoke to him backstage, and he seemed bummed.

"I’m not going to lie — I was disappointed," he said. "But, you know, I’m gonna come back and we’ll take a few home."

But when it came time for the 2012 Grammys, Bieber only had his Christmas album to show for. Perhaps next year?

At the 2013 Grammys, there was no love for Bieber's next album, Believe. Beliebers, as you could imagine, were outraged. And so was his manager, Scooter Braun, who said the Recording Academy "blew it" by not nominating him. After all, he was one of the biggest-selling artists at the time, and... radio silence from the Grammys.

Instead, Bieber held rival programing during the Grammys, trying to host a failed live stream and releasing a partially unfinished track to fans.

The next year, he was battling backlash against DUI charges in Miami, which have since been dropped.

Ever since then, Bieber has done away with conventional albums, putting his music out in "bundle" form in 2013 with his Journals project. Think about it: if you don't qualify for a Grammy nom, then you can't be bummed about rejection. And deep down, even though it would be nice to get recognized by what most consider the highest honor in music, Bieber knows he doesn't need it.

This year, Bieber won't be at the Grammys. He doesn't have an album anyway, and, after all, the Grammys won't exactly nominate a SoundCloud snippet. (Although they did nominate ILoveMakonnen's "Tuesday," so that's a tad perplexing). Are the Grammys out of Justin's life? Will Justin be watching? Will Justin be watching Netflix and cracking open pistachios instead? I'll get to that shortly.

Here's my prediction: Grammys 2016 could be all about Justin.

I know it's bold to say, but he's got an album on the way (and a tour, he said so himself), and I'm confident it's going to be the comeback album that will blow people away; Justin's been teasing acoustic confessionals and has been working with everyone from mastermind producer Rick Rubin to Lil Twist, Chris Brown, Ariana Grande, Cody Simpson, Birdman, Lil Wayne and Austin Mahone. And those are only some of the people! Not to mention that he's been honing in on the guitar.

And since I may be so bold to predict that Justin may be Grammy-worthy next year (not like he needs to be), let me also predict what he's going to do this Sunday, when the 57th Annual Grammy Awards will go down.

  1. Taking selfies

It's a good way to pass the time.

  2. Making scrambled eggs

    If he has any left.

  3. Hanging out with Kendall

    They're just friends.

  4. Taping a talk show
    The Ellen Degeneres Show

He's already been on like two this week.

  5. Watching 'West Coast Customs' reruns

It's more entertaining than watching AC/DC perform at the Grammys.

  6. Doing sports

Time to sharpen those skateboarding skills.

  7. Hanging out with Paul McCartney

    IDK, everyone else is.

  8. Working on his bangin' new record.

    We hope.
