Selfridges Launching First Ever Gender Neutral Shopping Experience

We've been longtime supporters of men wearing women's clothing and vice versa, but now London-based retailer Selfridges is launching an entire gender neutral shopping experience, according to WWD.

The Agender project–which launches March 12–will be “a fashion exploration of the masculine, the feminine and the interplay…found in between," meaning the store will do away with typical male and female mannequins and dress the windows in non gender-specific ensembles instead. Selfridges will carry (mostly exclusive) unisex lines from Nicola Formichetti's brand Nicopanda, Faye Toogood, Bodymap, Rad Hourani, and Underground, and will also include pieces from Ann Demeulemeester, Comme des Garcons, Meadham Kirchhoff and Gareth Pugh, according to WWD.

The project, which runs through April, will span the first and second floors of Selfridges' Oxford Street store as well as their Manchester and Birmingham locations. For those not lucky enough to live in London (or won't be traveling there any time soon), the unisex clothing will also be available on their website. WWD says Selfridges plans to feature "photography, film, music and design pieces exploring the idea of gender" and hopes to “take…customers on a journey where they can choose to shop and dress without limitations or stereotypes."
