Never underestimate the power of the fan. It's been proven time and time again, and today is the latest testament to what a passionate fanbase can do.
Supporters of the dark comedy "Hits," directed by David Cross, just proved that they really want to see this movie, donating to fulfill -- and exceed -- the movie's $100,000 Kickstarter goal, eight days early. The film, starring Meredith Hagner, Matt Walsh, James Adomian, Jake Cherry, Derek Waters, Wyatt Cenac, David Koechner, Jessie Ennis, Amy Sedaris, Michael Cera, Amy Carlson and Jason Ritter, will turn the traditional distribution model on its head, becoming available simultaneously on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and more. Additionally, the film will be available as a Pay-What-You-Want release in some theaters and on BitTorrent, as of February 12.
Cross said that fan support has taken the independent film beyond its initial release plans.
"Originally we had hoped to be in 20-30 markets," said Cross. "With the help of the Kickstarter campaign we're now planning to be in 37 markets and with a last push we hope to be in 50 markets."
Cross also shared a video thanking fans and supporters with MTV News. Check it out:
