Guys Who Post A Lot Of Selfies Are More Likely To Be Psychopaths

Now you have a scientific reason to avoid guys who post those stupid tiger pics on Tinder.

Dudes who post a bajillion selfies are more full of themselves than dudes who don’t.

Is that surprising info? Nah, probably not. But now there’s actual scientific proof to back that statement up, thanks to a new study from The Ohio State University.

The study looked at a sample of 800 men between the ages of 18 to 40, who were asked about their social media behavior and posting tendencies.

The results revealed that men who post more photos of themselves online are more likely to be narcissistic and psychopathic, which sheds some light on how personalities affect social media behavior.

Moreover, guys who edited their selfies before posting them scored higher in narcissism and self-objectification — which basically means they think they’re hot s—t — but not in psychopathy.

As Jesse Fox, the lead researcher behind the study, explained, “Psychopathy is characterized by impulsive behavior. They are going to snap the photos and put them online right away. They want to see themselves. They don’t want to spend time editing.”

This doesn’t mean that every guy who clogs your Instagram feed with obnoxious selfies (cough, cough, looking at you, Justin Bieber) is necessarily a psychopath or a narcissist. But it DOES prove that those kinds of guys tend to have higher-than-average levels of these traits.

“With the growing use of social networks, everyone is more concerned with their appearance. That means self-objectification may become a bigger problem for men, as well as for women,” Fox said, adding that she’s planning on conducting a follow-up study that will look at women’s selfie behavior.
