The journey to get "Fifty Shades of Grey" onto the big screen hasn't been easy. Every blue-eyed Hollywood hottie was in contention for the role of eponymous sex god Christian Grey at one point or another. And although the part eventually went to Jamie Dornan, no one spurred casting speculation quite like Matt Bomer.

Bomer may not have landed the part, but we doubt he's having any regrets. Not only did the actor just take home the Golden Globe for his work in HBO's "The Normal Heart," but he also part of another NSFW franchise: "Magic Mike."

MTV News caught up with Bomer on the carpet before Sunday night's Globes, and he weighed in on his pick for the better date movie: "Magic Mike XXL" or "Fifty Shades of Grey."

"I think they'll both be great date movies," Bomer said. "I think they'll very different kinds of date movies. There's something in those two movies for any couple."

The highly anticipated sequel to 2012's "Magic Mike" has already wrapped filming and is slated for a July 2015 release. And while there won't be any direct box office competition between "Magic Mike XXL" and "Fifty Shades," which arrives in theaters just in time for Valentine's Day, it will be fun to see which skin-baring film will outperform the other.
