Conservative Politician Mike Huckabee Thinks Jay Z Is A 'Pimp' Exploiting Beyonce As A 'Sex Object'

The former presidential candidate compared hip-hop mogul Jay Z's relationship with his superstar wife to that of a 'pimp'.

Every once in a while someone from the world of politics takes a foray into pop culture analysis that is so atrociously off base it becomes a news story in its own right.

Such was the case when former Arkansas governor, 2008 Conservative presidential candidate and Fox News talk show host (try saying that three times fast) decided to address hip-hop royalty Beyonce and Jay Z's 2013 Grammy performance in his new book God, Guns, Grits and Gravy (yes, it's really called that).

Huckabee thinks that Jay Z is exploiting Beyonce for her sexuality, and once again uses the loaded term "pimp" to describe Jay Z.

An excerpt from the book:

"My reaction: Why? Beyoncé is incredibly talented — gifted, in fact," Huckabee writes. "She has an exceptional set of pipes and can actually sing. She is a terrific dancer – without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom. Jay-Z is a very shrewd businessman, but I wonder: Does it occur to him that he is arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?"

The first offensive thing is that Huckabee STILL printed Jay Z's name with the hyphen when Jay clearly asked us to stop using it back in 2013.

Additionally, not only does this perspective completely rob Beyonce of her own agency regarding her sexuality, but it reinforces old, tired gender roles that value women based on their purity or "virginal" qualities. Beyonce can embrace her sexuality in public if she wants to be! Not only that, but it's downright offensive to compare Jay's relationship with Beyonce as her husband to the exchange between a pimp and a prostitute.

Also, how on earth does he assume that any moves Beyonce does onstage were dictated by Jay Z and not of her own volition? The number of way this dude is unwittingly showing his sexism is appalling.

Because as far as any career decisions go, it's all King B in charge. Bey infamously cut ties with her dad-ager Matthew Knowles in 2011 and began managing her own career through her own company Parkwood Entertainment.

Maybe Huckabee should do a little research into things before he speaks out on them—a quality that would be especially useful if he decides to make another run at the presidential election in 2016.
