You'll Never Guess Who LL Cool J's Collaborating With Next

He's a Rap God, Rap God.

From Hollis to 8 Mile? It’s an unlikely trip down the hip-hop highway, but Queens’ LL Cool J has announced that he collaborated with Detroit’s own Eminem for his upcoming album, G.O.A.T. 2.

“Me and Em have a song,” LL told Rap-Up. “He just recently let me hear his verse and it’s crazy. He’s chainsawin’ shit. It’s good, it’s good. I think people are gonna be pleasantly surprised when they hear me and him on a record together.”

Em’s guest spot on the unnamed track may seem odd at first, but consider this: The “Rap God” MC is a huge fan of the Def Jam legend. Back in 2009, Slim Shady served up a tribute to the rapper, born James Todd Smith, at “VH1 Hip Hop Honors.”

“Yeah, it’s the first we ever did something together,” he said. “Things are going in the right direction. This is a record that I think people are gonna be excited. To miss out on this G.O.A.T. 2 album would be a travesty for hip-hop. Like, you can’t miss this shit.”

With features from the likes of Fred the Godson, T.I. and Em, LL’s sequel to his eighth studio LP appears to be a welcome return to that old boom bap that cemented his place in the game.

“This is for the culture now, and I think people are gonna love it,” he said. “It’s about the beats and the bars and the rhymes. It’s about it being current and fresh and riveting, not a bunch of old, tired ’95 nugget ring bullsh-t.”
