Usher Brings The 'I Can't Breathe' Protest Onstage

As many rally on the streets, Usher uses his tour as his platform.

As rallies continue fighting against racism and police brutality, Usher is spreading word the best way musicians know how. During his UR Experience Tour, the "Good Kisser" singer came onstage Sunday night in Tampa, Florida, wearing a shirt reading "I can't breathe" -- the last words of Eric Garner, an unarmed black man who was killed after a police officer put him in a chokehold.

Thousands of people are protesting the recent non-indictment of the Staten Island police officer and the police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager from Ferguson. The movement uses Garner and Brown as just two examples of racially driven police brutality, and when MTV News spoke to protestors in Washington, D.C., many of them say they want peace and justice.

Usher is just one among the many public figures shedding light on the issue with a peaceful stance. NBA players like Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose have been wearing the "I can't breathe" shirts during warmups, and two weeks ago, NFL players from the St. Louis Rams entered the field with their hands up, a gesture many think Brown used in his last minutes.
