Yesterday (December 12) in New York City, Billboard hosted a special Women in Music event for some of the brightest stars in pop music, from Beyoncé to Taylor Swift. Both Hayley Williams of Paramore and Jessie J gave standout acoustic performances during the event, too.
Joined by Joy Williams of the Civil Wars, Hayley Williams sang a stripped-down version of Paramore's song "Hate to See Your Heart Break." The single was released this year along with a deluxe reissue of Paramore's 2013 self-titled album.
Jessie J, who won Billboard's Powerhouse Honor at the event, also took the stage with an acoustic version of her single "Masterpiece." Accompanied by an acoustic guitarist, the English singer encouraged the audience to dance even though there weren't any beats behind her: "I know it’s acoustic, but if you do get the feel to dance it would be a bit awkward but I’d enjoy it.”
And as a treat for birthday girl Taylor Swift, legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin performed a very special rendition of "Happy Birthday."
She'll probably never get a better rendition, but wow, what a memory!
