This Former Teen Heartthrob Has Joined The Cast Of 'True Detective'

Will there be singing involved?

In the mood for a quick pop music history lesson?

Look up former teen heartthrob Rick Springfield.

Yes, that Rick Springfield.

The "Jessie's Girl" singer announced on Twitter Wednesday (December 10) that he has joined the cast for the second season of HBO’s “True Detective.”

While the extent of Springfield’s role is unknown, the 65-year old’s casting isn’t as unorthodox as it may seem. The former General Hospital actor played himself on Showtime’s “Californication” and has a role in the Jonathan Demme-directed film, “Ricki and the Flash.”

With a resume like that, he should be able to hold his own alongside Colin Ferrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn.

“True Detective” returns in summer 2015 on HBO.
