Is this the final chapter for Coldplay?
After releasing six studio albums, frontman Chris Martin seems to think so.
During a recent interview with BBC Radio’s Zane Lowe to discuss the band’s placement on the disc jockey’s hottest songs of the year charts, Martin revealed that the band’s upcoming seventh album, A Head Full of Dreams, might be its last.
“We’re in the studio and I haven’t told anyone this... we’re making an album called A Head Full of Dreams,” he told Lowe. “We’re right in the middle of it. It’s our seventh thing and the way we look at it, it’s like the last Harry Potter book. That’s not to say there won’t be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something. I have to think of it as the final thing we’re doing, otherwise we wouldn’t put everything into it.”
While it’s only been seven months since the release of the group’s sixth LP, Ghost Stories, the “Magic” collective is likely more refreshed creatively than usual because they did not tour for the project.
Martin and the rest of the band believe that they’ll definitely hit the road to support their next opus, considering it may be their curtain call.
“It was great to go from Ghost Stories right back into the studio,” Martin said. “Now, we’re making things that sound different. It’s a very fun time to be in our band.”
