Here's The Story Behind That Cara Delevingne Lyric On A$AP Ferg's 'Dope Walk'

Look, it's nothing new for the worlds of fashion and hip-hop to overlap, and rappers have been name-dropping brands in their songs for decades. To name-drop a model, though, is significantly more rare. That's why when A$AP Ferg made mention of Cara Delevingne in the first verse of his braggadocious "Dope Walk," we took notice. But when Stelios Phili, who produced the track, revealed that Ferg freestyled the whole thing? Well, we were hooked. We had to know more. Is Ferg *that* big of a Cara fan that he just had her top-of-mind??

Stelios gave us the play-by-play: "After recording a few songs at Jungle City, Ferg took a break and, for some reason, we started watching a video where Cara Delevingne lip-syncs LL Cool J's 'Control Myself' surrounded by dancing Japanese emojis. That brought to mind a photo I'd seen of Cara wearing her grill. I showed it to Ferg, and he thought it was dope."

Stelios added that the co-sign was more than just a smile-and-nod, it was high praise, "Ferg has the most baller grills in the game, so that's a big compliment. His latest one looks like an adaption of Frozen: it's 100% ice."

But how did Cara go from break-time entertainment to being immortalized in song? Stelios explains, "Later on, I played him the beat that became 'Dope Walk,' and he came up with the first line instantly. Then, he went into the booth and freestyled the whole thing, Pokémon references and all. When we heard him say, 'I'm on my gangster lean like a dope fiend / My walk's meaner than Cara Delevingne's,' the whole room was like, 'Oh s--t!' Like all good things in life, that special moment was inspired by a wonderful set of grills."
