The Rock Is In Talks For Another God Role

The actor is circling Disney's next animated musical, 'Moana.'

From here on out, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will only ever play characters who are at least 50% deity... or, alternately, it's just a fun coincidence that he's currently up for the role of a demigod in the 2016 Disney animated film "Moana."

According to The Wrap, Johnson is in talks for the part of Maui, a marine demigod who accompanies the titular character on a high seas adventure. This news comes on the heels of his acclaimed performance in "Hercules," where he also played a demigod, although because this is an animated movie, The Rock will presumably not be required to develop and maintain the same sort of stunning musculature that he displayed in the film based on the Greek myth. I mean, unless he wanted to. Which would also be fine, in every sense of the word.

"Moana" is one of the most anticipated projects coming down the Disney pipeline; although the movie still lacks a young actress for its title role, the studio was already teasing us with some drool-worthy concept art back in October. And a primo place in the Disney universe would be an exciting change of pace for Johnson, who's already proved that he can do the family-friendly thing with his role in the wildly underrated "The Tooth Fairy," but who has yet to do an animated feature film, let alone a musical one. The Rock as a singing demigod? Please, oh please, let this really happen.
