What Pregnant Kourtney Kardashian's Nude Photos Say About Our Comfort Level With Women’s Bodies

Are you a Kardashian hypocrite?

Everyone likes Kourtney Kardashian's nude photos for DuJour.

OK, maybe not everyone. But Kim Kardashian didn't exactly #BreakTheInternet with her naked photos either, so expressions will be expressions. Anyways, the point is this: A lot of people liked Kourtney's magazine pics, and a lot of people hated Kim's.

So what's the difference? Let's review, shall we? Both shoots dispensed with underwear. Both used clothing merely as a prop. Nipples were gloriously revealed. Things got slippery with Kourt's wet T-shirt contest of sorts and Kim's oily fiesta.

But Kourtney is pregnant. Kim is not.

To be clear: Kourtney's photos are far more modest (mostly because of the absence of a Kim-esque ~crotch shot~). And the expectant mom's photos aren't playful -- the light is dimmed, the shadows are just right and there's a humungous feather necklace involved, which makes everything seem a bit more high fashion. But part of the reason Kourtney isn't being sexualized is because she's with child. Off the market. She's not trashy for taking off her clothes; she's "beautiful," "unbelievable," and "the prettiest Kardashian," among other comments I saw on Twitter.

I want you to visualize the same wet T-shirt shot now without the belly. Would you guys have the same reaction to the photo? Or would you throw out the same words her hyper-famous sister got last month: "trashy," "slutty," and "pornographic." Is nudity only OK if you're pregnant? I think no, and so does Kourtney, whose words printed along with the photos perfectly illuminate my argument:

"To me, nudity is not something to be ashamed of," she told the mag. "I’m not embarrassed of my body."

We shouldn't bash nudity. Hello! We're all naked under our clothes!

But seriously, if we're forever censoring our bodies, how can we ever be comfortable in our own skin? Here's what else Kourtney said:

"I’m at my best when I’m pregnant," the elder Kardashian said. "It’s such an amazing feeling, the transformation that your body goes through. There’s something about that that’s so empowering and beautiful and I just really embrace it."

Many celebrities have embraced their pregnancy with nude photo shoots -- Jessica Simpson, Alicia Keys, Nia Long, Britney Spears. Not to mention that Kourtney's photos look similar to Christina Aguilera's shoot. If we think women's bodies are "beautiful" only when they're pregnant, what does that say about us? After all, Kim Kardashian's body went through a transformation too when she had North West. When celebrities are pregnant, we become fascinated with their bodies -- and rightfully so -- pregnancy is a pretty cool thing. As soon as the celeb baby is born, there's a month for us to gawk at their "post-baby body," because, um, how did she get so fit in that amount of time? But after that, you better stay covered. That's how a proper lady should act, right?

Let's appreciate nudity for what it is: human. Our bodies are awesome no matter what.
