Sky Ferreira's New Song 'Guardian' Is A Perfect Winter Anthem

Sounds like the 22-year-old songwriter is claiming her own independence.

It's been a little over a year since Sky Ferreira released her debut album Night Time, My Time, but the 22-year-old songwriter hasn't stopped working on new material. After opening for Miley Cyrus on her "Bangerz" tour, Sky has continued to tour—and apparently to write new music. Last Saturday (November 22) in Santa Ana, California, she unveiled a brand new song tentatively called "Guardian."

A fan captured live audio of the new tune, and it came out well enough to hear just how good Sky's voice sounds. She's known for her plaintive, low-key single "Everything Is Embarrassing," but "Guardian" really gives her the chance to belt. The song features big, booming drums and sparkling bells, making it a perfect jam for the winter holidays.

"I wanna be free from the dark that lives deep inside of me / Free from all the eyes I see watching over me," Ferreira sings. "I want to be the guardian."

It sounds like she's learning to grow up and claim her own independence: "Don't want you to be there / Don't want you to care for me anymore."

She sounds pretty triumphant doing it, too. Listen to the unreleased new song below.
