Hooch_Pooch, the latest doggie Instagram sensation, has many of the same lovable qualities that have made dogs man's best friend for years. He's sweet, goofy and has a deep-seated zest for life. What separates Hooch from many of his canine companions, however, is the fact that his background is anything but sunshine and jerky treats. The mastiff, who is now under the loving care of rescue organization Marley's Mutts in Kern County, California, was found with his tongue and ears cut off - presumably in abuse that was related to dog fighting.

Amazingly, these horrible acts of violence have done nothing to damper the spirits of this handsome, wrinkly faced guy, who volunteers describe as a dog who "Loves everyone he comes in contact with," who "harbors no ill-will toward people." Hooch's inspiring spirit and contagious love have made him something of a local celebrity when his story aired on the Kern County news last year. In the time since his rescue, Hooch has continued to "Pay It Forward," and his amazing people skills have earned him a position as a therapist: he works with humans who struggle from a variety of issues, from autism to alcoholism.
