A Great Big World want to inform the world that they want a hippo for Christmas. And everyone knows that the best way to spread an important message is through song. Ahead of the holiday season, the duo covered the classic "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas" as part of the "I’ll Be Home For Christmas" compilation, and MTV is streaming it exclusively on the guys' MTV Artists page now.
The pair put a rock spin on the song, which was originally sung by 10-year-old Gayla Peevey in 1953. And while the track is still kind of silly, A Great Big World play up the theatrics and give it more of a rock-opera type of feel. Instead of an orchestral break, there's now an electric guitar solo and pounding piano chords. Key changes and crowd-sung vocals complete the vibe, making this song a whole lot of fun.
