9 Burning Questions For 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1'

We need to Snow.

Okay, look: we're aware there's a whole other movie coming out in 2015 called "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" that will hopefully soothe the potent cocktail of tracker jackers buzzing in our brains after viewing "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1." But until then, we've got a few burning questions that need to be answered, and soon.

Spoilers for "Mockingjay - Part 1" past this point!

1. Was Finnick Lying?

Yes, Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin) is a charming devil, and his speech used to distract the Capitol by jamming their signals while Gale and company rescue Peeta is damning. But is he telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?

Two critical details stand out to us... The first is that Cressida (Natalie Dormer) tells him to keep talking "no matter what." So he could just be rambling through stories, or he could be telling the truth.

The second detail is that up until this point, Finnick has been a goddamn mess. He goes from nearly catatonic knot-tier, to charming speaker able to maintain eye contact and let the wind subtly ruffle his golden locks. It's possible all he needed to break out of his fugue state was someone asking him to be in a movie, or it could be that he's had a total mental break.

And there's one more important detail: this is a propaganda film. As we see throughout the movie, time and again, the District 13 rebels are using these Propos to tilt the truth their way. It's a war of words as much as deeds.

Is it possible Finnick saved his harshest words for the right moment? Yes. Is it also possible he's skewing the truth to help his cause? Surer than the path of his own trident flying through the air. By which we mean, yes, it's possible.

2. Will Peeta Be Okay?

LionsGate

Poor little Peeta pocket seems to be in pretty bad shape, his noggin full of tracker jacker juice by the end of the movie. He's bruised, crazed and thrashing on the bed by movie's end. We do think there's a good chance he'll at least partially recover in order to get revenge on Snow and the Capitol by the end of "Part 2," but if there's one thing we've learned from these movies it's that no-one escapes unscathed.

3. Does Gale Even Stand A Chance?

Lionsgate

Nope. Sorry, Brother Of Sexiest Man Alive. Gale will always be second place in Katniss' heart, and he knows it.

4. What's President Snow's Endgame?

We know what his eventual endgame is: his continued rule of The Capitol and subjugation of the districts. But what does he hope to get out of taunting Katniss in particular? There's certainly strategy involved in breaking the spirit of the revolution's most prominent member, but what's with his letting the rebels in - and out - of The Capitol just to get Peeta to strangle Katniss? There's waging a war of ideas, and then there's just being a horrible jerk.

5. What's President Coin's Endgame?

Lionsgate

This is a big one... There's something under the surface that seems very, very wrong with Coin. A coldness there, and the hints that things aren't quite right in District 13. So what is Coin up to? Is she really in it to save Panem, or could we be trading one dictator for another?

6. Will Katniss Finally Jump Into Action?

Lionsgate

We know Katniss propelled the action during the attack on the hospital, but after that, she was sidelined -- and in fact, most of the series has been about keeping her safe and sound, rather than throwing our hero into danger. But with a confrontation on the horizon, can Katniss really stay off the frontlines?

7. Will Effie Get Her Wigs Back?

Lionsgate

Come on, the poor lady makes do with what she has, but the true hero of these movies needs her full look back. And some mahogany.

8. Who's Gonna Die?

Lionsgate

Probably the bigger question is who won't die, because other than a few randos "Part 1" was a relatively bloodless affair. That just means the body count is going to skyrocket in the finale, and we don't think our hearts can handle it.

9. Buttercup Is The Worst, Right?

Lionsgate

That cat. That goddamn cat.
