Fans have been waiting for Joey Bada$$'s debut album, B4.DA.$$, for years. Mixtapes, EPs, and touring have helped tide them over, but they'll soon no longer be #B4DAMONEYHUNGRY.
On Thursday (November 20), the Brooklyn rapper released a quick trailer for his debut disc, which ends with the revelation of a release date: January 20, 2015. The spot opens with Joey and his Pro Era cohort Powers Pleasant standing on the street, talking and laughing, before they abruptly hop on skateboards and roll away.
The camera then pans up and out, and we see sprawling views of what are most likely Brooklyn streets. Finally, we see a young kid on his stoop, with the album's title written on the sidewalk.
We've known for a little while this day was coming -- we just didn't know when.
“At this point, the album is completed,” Joey told MTV News in September. “[I finished it] literally two days ago. It’s been pretty much completed for a while, but it’s like when you make ice cream, it’s that cherry on the top that really brings it all together. The whole time, I’ve been searching for sprinkles, and now I got it nicely decorated and everything, so it’s ready to go.”
“I worked with Statik Selektah heavy,” he said. “I worked with DJ Premier. Hit-Boy. There’s Kirk Knight. There’s Chuck Strangers. Zo Supreme.”
We'll hear the fruits of his labor at the top of the year.
