Disney debuted the first real, extended peek at its new "Cinderella" today, and lest there were any doubts, they have obviously struck Hollywood gold with these live-action reboots of their old animated classics.
The new, improved Cinderella looks to have all the magic and charm of the 1950 original -- including a titular character with an impossibly beautiful face and an even more impossibly tiny waist -- but with the added benefits of modern FX and maybe a wee bit more contemporary bite.
There are umpteen million things to love about this trailer, starting with the sumptuous visuals and gorgeous candy-colored costumes, and ending with the promise of juicy performances from not just the film's leading lady (Lily James, playing Cinderella), but from the exquisite Cate Blanchett as her evil, leopard-print-loving stepmother and the ever-quirky Helena Bonham Carter as her fairy godmother. Honestly, Helena has so completely found her niche in the oddball old lady oeuvre, it's going to be amazing to see what kind of performances she turns in when she's actually old.
Add in the transformation sequence that looks like a world-class episode of "Extreme Makeover: Fairytale Edition" and a sighting of Richard Madden as Prince Charming, and we're sold. Bonus: We're pretty sure this film ends with a wedding at which nobody will be murdered.
"Cinderella" will be out in theaters March 2015.
