Is Chloe Moretz About To Join The X-Men?

We're a long way from Hit-Girl.

After trash-talking and sharp-shooting her way through two "Kick-Ass" movies, it looks like Chloe Moretz wants to return to the superhero genre — albeit with fewer curses and head-shots.

Moretz is reportedly one of several actors contending for a spot in "X-Men: Apocalypse," Bryan Singer's upcoming sequel to this year's "Days of Future Past." The Wrap reports that Moretz, Elle Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld are vying for the role of Jean Grey, the red-headed telepath and foundational X-Men member from the comics; Famke Janssen has played Jean in five out of seven X-Men movies thus far.

Meanwhile, three up-and-coming actors are being eyed to take on Cyclops, the optic-blasting X-Men field leader played by James Marsden in the original trilogy. According to The Wrap, Singer is considering Ben Hardy, Charlie Rowe and Timothee Chalamet for the part of Scott Summers, Jean's longtime boyfriend.

No word on who stands out as the frontrunner for either role, but the report states that both Moretz and Fanning recently met with Singer about playing Jean. Whoever winds up in "Apocalypse," we can expect to see more from them in the future, as these two characters are "expected to recur in future 'X-Men' movies."

So, while it's certainly not a done deal, we might see the person who did this…

…become the person responsible for this:

We'll find out soon enough; with a May 27, 2016 release date on the horizon, "Apocalypse" needs to finalize casting soon.
