And the Oscar goes to...The Joker?
Heath Ledger won the golden statue as the maddening villain in “The Dark Knight” and now it looks like Warner Bros. has its sights on another Oscar winner to reprise the role in the upcoming “Suicide Squad” movie: Jared Leto.
Leto was initially interested in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” but since Benedict Cumberbatch was cast for that, he turned his attention to the Joker role after Ryan Gosling was unwilling to sign up for multiple movies.
While Justin Marks’ original screenplay does not mention the psychotic clown, insiders believe that Ayer will rewrite the script to include the Caped Crusader’s arch enemy.
Margot Robbie, Tom Hardy and Will Smith are currently in advanced stages to star in the movie, which is based on the popular DC Comic where the government offers the group of supervillians a shot at redemption by sending them on a suicide mission.
At press time, Warner Bros. had no comment on the Leto casting rumors.
