The First Trailer For The Martin Luther King Jr. Biopic 'Selma' Is Here, And It's Emotional

Oprah Winfrey and David Oyelowo star in the upcoming flick.

David Oyelowo steps up to fill the shoes of famed civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. in a new biopic produced by his "The Butler" co-star Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt.

The first trailer for "Selma" eerily echoes the recent events surrounding the tragic death of Ferguson teen Michael Brown and recalls the protests that erupted in the wake of Florida teen Trayvon Martin's death back in 2012.

The film follows the story of King's spearheaded civil rights movement, highlighting the march from Selma, Alabama, to Montgomery in 1965 that had to be attempted three times before succeeding. The historic first attempt became known as "Bloody Sunday" after police attempted to stop the event with extensive brutality.

"Selma" hits theaters this Christmas Day, December 25.
