Part of the reason that I like the title "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" so much is that it's unexpected. There's no "Episode VII." It's not the "Dawn" or "Return" or Age" or "Revenge" of anything. Who could have predicted that specific combination of words among an infinite number of options?
Well to get technical about it, one person could.
After the title hit the web, ScreenCrush writer Mike Ryan did some clever Googling and found a forum post on TheForce.net in which user Queen Gimmedala correctly guessed the title "The Force Awakens."
Oh, also, the post was from December 18, 2012, nearly two years before the title announcement - and exactly three years before the movie is set to hit theaters.
Yesterday, TheForce.net got in touch with Queen Gimmedala to find out what went into the spot-on guess.
"Ultimately this was a random guess," Gimmedala said. "No inside info or connection to Lucas. But to me it seemed logical that the first movie in this trilogy would need to address the force. I'm a believer that the movie titles in each trilogy closely relate and I suspect this will carry over for the [sequel trilogy]."
From there, it was some reasoning with a little educated guess work.
"So I knew it was going to be 3 words, and the force," Gimmedala said. "I also know that the wording would be vague/ambiguous/old fashioned like all the other six movie titles."
Good work, Queen Gimmedala! I hope you enjoy your prize for guessing the title: a trip to J.J. Abrams' mysterious chocolate factory.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters on December 18, 2015.
