Nightmare On Tatooine: Here's How Freddy Krueger Transformed 'Star Wars'

A long time ago, on a couch in the 1970s…

It's impossible to imagine "Star Wars" without Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. Can you picture anyone else in the role?

Neither can we. And believe it or not, this is the man who made that dream casting come true:

That's right: Freddy Krueger — or at least the actor who plays him.

Robert Englund spoke with Yahoo Movies about the time he auditioned to play Han Solo in "Star Wars," and how he subsequently brought the movie to the attention of the young man who would go on to save that galaxy far, far away.

"I went home and told a little kid that was sleeping on my couch, after a six-pack of Heineken, all about ['Star Wars'], and his name was Mark Hamill," he said. "I said, ‘Hey, Lucas is doing this space movie. Maybe you’re right for it. The lead guy’s like a teenager…. So Mark got on the phone to his agent and I think he went up the next day. He nailed it, and the rest is history."

There you have it. Without this guy:

We never get this guy:

In fact, without England, Mark Hamill would not have been in "Star Wars," and probably never would have provided the voice of this guy:

So, double thanks to the "Nightmare" man!
