Kendrick Lamar Named Names On 'Control,' But Which One Is He Ready To Apologize To?

Think you can guess who it is?

When Kendrick Lamar's verse on Big Sean's "Control" was released in 2013, the "i" MC named a lot of names, including Drake, J. Cole and Mac Miller. Now, a little over a year after releasing the song, he's ready to apologize to one of the people he referenced on the track -- and that name might just surprise you.

"I still gotta speak my peace to Phil [Jackson]," Kendrick says in an interview with Vibe, referencing his line about being uncoachable. "It’s a beautiful thing, first of all. Second of all, I have to go back and say how big of a fan I was, and still am, of Phil.

"[I’ve been a fan of his] since the Bulls and Lakers, so for him to actually acknowledge me in the light of music was something unexpected," K. Dot added. I thought it was dope. But I don’t want to be on Phil’s bad side, so he’s the only person I will apologize to about the line. Phil Jackson. I’ll tweet that tomorrow."

Jackson actually tweeted to Kendrick twice after his rap-shattering verse on "Control" came out.

Phil isn't the only icon on the Top Dawg rapper's mind. King Kendrick, who recently performed with Prince, said he'd also be excited to perform with other iconic names in music.

"I always wanted to work with Sade," he explains. "I always wanted to work with her. She has a very, very nice voice. Since day one, Anita Baker and Patti LaBelle too. Those are the only people I can think of straight off the top of the head."

Who knows if we'll get some of those collaborations on Kendrick's upcoming album? At least we know it's going to be more raw than his critically acclaimed debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city, which is saying a lot.

While we wait on the album, we'll get a glimpse of what's to come Saturday when the Compton rapper serves as musical guest on "SNL."
