Jay Rock's 'Parental Advisory' Sounds Like A 2014 Version Of Snoop's Doggystyle

Listen to Jay Rock's new one.

Over the last couple of years, Top Dawg Entertainment has emerged as the leader in the West Coast's new rap movement -- a position long-held by artists like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Still, that doesn't mean that TDE doesn't look to their predecessors for inspiration. In fact, Jay Rock's new single sounds so good, it could've fit right in on Snoop's 1993 classic Doggystyle.

"Parental Advisory," a track that Rock dropped on Tuesday (October 14), starts with a gassy bounce which conjures memories of Snoop's "Tha Shiznit." There's also a sampling of the D-O-Double-G's "Pump, Pump," but the vibe? That's all Jay Rock.

The original TDE MC uses his patented gruff and gangsta demeanor to ride the SmokeyGotBeatz-produced track.
