Are Phillies Fans The Funniest Fanbase In Baseball?

Not all comedic geniuses are appreciated in their times.

Philadelphia is known for a lot of things -- the Liberty Bell, the cheesesteak, the hilarious TV show that (for the most part) isn't actually filmed there -- and, of course, its sports fans, who have a reputation for getting a little...um...passionate.

For example, during a game against Atlanta last Saturday, Phillies fans joined together to mock the bird-like stance of Braves closing pitcher Craig Kimbrel in the final inning:

As MLB's Cut4 blog put it, there's "a new workout craze coming out of Philadelphia called The Kimbrel. It's great for strengthening those shoulders and delts." The trolling didn't change the score -- the Braves won 4-2 -- but it did seem to throw Kimbrel off his game. Here's the full video:

Even if you're not from Philly, you have to admit this is pretty f---king funny. And it's not the first time Phillies fans have brought a (grudging) smile to the faces of their sworn enemies.

We asked two comedians, Chris Distefano (from MTV2's "Guy Code” and "Off The Bat From The MLB Fan Cave”) and Philadelphia's own Sean Green (from the Sports Gambling Podcast) to weigh in with their own stories of Philly fans being hilarious...

Chris Distefano

"I haven't been to Philly or even had any experience with any of the Phillies. I will say that I know they are crazed in any sport, and even their comedy audiences produce the most hecklers ever! I think it comes down to them being agitated constantly because of being overshadowed by NYC and Boston. It's clear that out of the three power Northeast cities, they are definitely third place. Gotta be a chip on their shoulder there. Just my analysis. Just add in that I love cheesesteaks, and still think Philly is one of best cities in the U.S. overall!"

Sean Green

"I went to an Eagles game with my dad and my uncle, who snuck in a flask of whiskey. My dad and uncle got insanely drunk and then started play-shoving each other. It quickly escalated and my dad and uncle ended up wrestling on the concrete mezzanine floor. Security rushed over with their pepper spray and handcuffs ready to go. They were about to strike when I yelled out, 'Wait there, brothers!' Everyone had a good laugh, highlighting why Philadelphia is truly the City Of Brotherly Love."
