Twihards Rejoice: New ‘Twilight’ Movies Are On The Way

Are you sitting down? You should probably sit down.

This is not a joke. This is not a hoax. This is for real: "Twilight" is coming back!

As announced by the The New York Times, Lionsgate is resurrecting its supremely popular supernatural romance saga in the form of a series of "mini-movies," set to premiere exclusively on Facebook next year.

According to the report, Lionsgate and "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer will select "five aspiring female directors" to helm short films centered on the characters of the "Twilight" universe. "The female voice is something that has become more and more important to me as I’ve worked in the film industry," Meyer told the Times.

As for using Facebook as the platform to launch the new "Twilight" movies, Lionsgate's Michael Burns said: “We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of ‘Twilight’ to a whole new audience while re-energizing existing fans." He added that these "Twilight" mini-movies are "just the beginning — a template, if you will."

"You can probably guess what might be coming next," he teased.

Could he be referencing a similar mini-movie treatment for Lionsgate's other hot property, "The Hunger Games," once that franchise ends in 2015? Is he alluding to further full-length feature films set in the "Twilight" universe, assuming the mini-movies are profitable?

Whatever the case, one thing's clear: "Twilight" is back. The franchise that first hit theaters in 2008 and last graced screens with 2012's "Breaking Dawn -- Part 2" will live on. Brace yourself accordingly.

The new "Twilight" mini-movies are expected to premiere on Facebook next year.
