Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) has successfully manipulated all of Westeros on "Game Of Thrones," and now he's headed to the future. Or at least, Gillen is, as the actor has officially signed on as one of the main antagonists in the post-apoclayptic "The Maze Runner" sequel, "Maze Runner: Scorch Trials."
As first hollywood reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Gillen will be playing Janson - also known as Rat-Face - an antagonist for Dylan O'Brien's Thomas and the other (spoiler) Gladers who escaped at the end of "The Maze Runner."
Though the Reporter article describes Janson as a "villain," that's not strictly accurate, as fans of the books know.
BIG spoilers for "The Scorch Trials" past this point.
In the book - and it's possible Gillen's role will be expanded for the film - Janson is a liaison for WICKED, the organization behind the deadly maze from the first volume, and the architects of the titular Scorch Trials. He actually only appears at the beginning of the book, as a catalyst that begins the second round of testing that hopes to reveal... Well, whatever it is WICKED is searching for.
Given the episodic nature of the second book, it would make sense to blow out Janson's role in the same way "The Hunger Games" has expanded villain President Snow, or "Divergent" changed Kate Winslet's Jeanine to appear throughout the first film - but we'll of course have to see how things actually pan out on screen.
"Maze Runner: Scorch Trials" will hit theaters on September 18, 2015.
