Childish Gambino Shows Off His Singing Voice On 'Sober'

There's no rapping on the first track from his new mixtape.

Late last month, Childish Gambino announced his upcoming project, STN MTN / KAUAI, and over the weekend, we got an early taste of the Gangsta Grillz mixtape. But if you've been itching for some new sharp-witted rhymes from the rapper, you're going to have to wait a little longer.

Instead, the Stone Mountain, Georgia native flexes one of his other talents: His singing voice. "Sober" is an up-tempo, funky jam, which finds Gambino crooning about love lost and the remedy for moving on.

"And now that's it's over, I'll never be sober/ I couldn't believe, but now I'm so high," he sings, eager to heal from heartbreak.

In a tweet, Donald said that this track is from the KAUAI side of the project. Based on the sonics here, maybe he's singing on that side, and rapping on the other? We'll have to wait until the mixtape drops to find out for sure -- although maybe it's all singing, since he recently declared "rap is done."

Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to find out.
