Should You Buy An Apple Watch?

It depends. Do you lift?

Now that it's been more than 24 hours since Apples unveiled their long-awaited Apple Watch, the conversation is probably shifting from "Look how cool this thing is!" to "Should I actually buy one?"

It's a good question, since smart watches are still a growing trend that hasn't really caught on in a big way. Could Apple Watch do for wearables what iPad did for tablets, making them something you see everywhere?

Based on what we know now, there are a few questions you should ask yourself before putting in that pre-order.

Do you have iPhone?

This is the question you need to ask yourself before considering anything else, because an Apple Watch is unusable without an iPhone 5 or up. The watch uses apps and notifications from your phone and largely works as an extension of your phone.

Do you lift, bro?

Like a lot of Apple's other new products, the Apple Watch focuses a lot of health. The heart rate monitor, accelerometer and GPS make the Apple Watch a workout nut's dream, especially the tougher sports edition. Since the tech is completely new, we've only just started to see what is possible with the Apple Watch. The health aspects are the features that we have the fullest picture of, so if you're not crazy about fitness, you might want to see how the device develops.

How much money do you have?

Apple has never been a bargain brand, and as such, the Apple Watch isn't starting off as a cheap option for people looking to buy a smart watch. The device will start off with a baseline price of $350, and it only goes up from there. Who knows how much the 18k gold version will cost. If you're looking for special features or the bigger size, the Apple Watch is going to set you back.

Are your friends getting an Apple Watch?

Not that I'm a supporter of peer pressure or following the crowd, but I imagine a lot of the fun of having an Apple Watch and using it to its full potential will mean knowing people who also have one. Apple mentioned a few of the watch-to-watch functions in their announcement, and I imagine this is an area where app developers will be eager to innovate.

Do you like annoying your friends?

Because one of the mentioned functions was the ability to poke your friends with a small vibration and send them drawings. I hope you enjoy endless buzzing and drawings of penises.

Apple Watch is expected to hit store shelves in Spring 2015.
